Often we give love with conditions. We tell people we’ll love them if they do all of these “things” so that we feel safe. We call it love, but love would never try to control the environment. That’s fear. The irony is that every action we choose to prevent the hurt is inevitably going to lead to people leaving us, hurting us - because no one can handle endless jealousy, insecurity, harsh words, toxicity, and a partner who tries to control us so as to control their level of vulnerability.

A commitment to another MUST be synonymous with a commitment to yourself. This level of personal accountability with ourselves is rare, and seldom sourced from internal motivation. Our commitment to ourselves is usually found through our incongruent relationship to something or someone outside of ourselves. The results in our lives from being committed to anything but ourselves wake us up to seeing that it ALWAYS comes back to US.
