Galapagos Islands Isabela – The largest wildlife paradise
Although Sierra Negra is not the highest volcano at 1,200 meters, it has the second largest volcanic cone on earth, with a diameter of about 9 kilometers. The luna-like landscape lends an otherworldly feel to the 3-ish hour hike up the volcano. From the edge of the crater, visitors are treated to a magnificent view out over the island of Isabela.

Good news for beach bunnies - the water reaches its maximum temperature of 25° in February. Divine swimming conditions last until April. Amongst the many amazing snorkelling spots throughout the archipelago, we strongly recommend heading down to Lobos islet. Prepare yourself for all sorts of playful and unexpected behaviour from the young sea lions at Lobos. These playful and friendly creatures love to swim up toward your mask, stop just a few inches short and blow bubbles in your face.

Floreana's flambouyance of flamingoes are starting to nest in February! The flamingoes found in the Galapagos Islands are among the most brilliantly colored. Colonies of several hundred Galapagos flamingos are not unusual, and they have been observed to care for their young in a type of flamingo “daycare” known as crèche. These curious birds can be found throughout the archipelago, with larger colonies most frequently sighted on the islands of Floreana, Isabela, Santiago, Rabida and Santa Cruz.

In January, marine iguanas living on Española Island, also known as Christmas iguanas, are starting to brighten their colours to compete during mating season. Charles Darwin described the iguanas as "disgusting, clumsy lizards" and Captain Colnett complained that the creatures were so ugly that he couldn't even coax his hungry crew to take them for food!
