Corset by Madam Griswold America, 1876 As wearing a corset was essential in Victorian times, understandably there was a great deal of innovation and invention as to the design of these undergarments. Many were patented, designed for extra comfort, for maternity wear or even wearing in the summer heat. This is one of Madam Griswold’s "Patent Skirt-Supporting Corsets" designed to be worn with the bulky bustles of the 1870s.
