Cristina Rodrigo is an aspiring dentist in her fourth year studying Biomedical Sciences at Ryeson University. In her second year at Ryerson, she co-founded the Chemistry and Biology Research Leaders Challenge to create more opportunities for students to bring research skills learned in classroom to solve real world challenges.
#CanWomenSTEM150 Dr. Franklin received her PhD in experimental physics at the Technical University of Berlin, after she and her parents survived the holocaust. She arrived in Toronto in 1948 to pursue a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto and worked as a senior scientist at the Ontario Research Foundation (1952-1967). She became the first female professor in UofT’s Faculty of Engineering in 1967.
#CanWomenSTEM150 Nadia Aubin-Horth is a professor in the Department of #biology at Université Laval. Her research topic is behavioural #endocrinology and #ecological #genomics. She is a leader in her field, has an extended network of collaborators worldwide and has given several invited talks at prestigious conferences and institutions.

This week we passed the quarter-way mark in our 150 Days of Canadian Women in STEM campaign. During this time, we have built up a database that showcases over 30 Canadian women involved in STEM careers. The profiles of these women serve to show a breadth of talent and skills of women in this country. In just over 40 days, we’ve featured a wide variety of scientists and teachers and mentors and doctors and researchers and innovators.
#CanWomenSTEM150 Eva Martinez embodies a lifelong passion for #aerospace and #aviation. A former air cadet and a graduate of the #Royal #Military College of Canada, Eva holds a Bachelor of #Engineering degree with a specialty in Aerospace. Before retiring as a Major in 2002, Eva worked as an #Aeronautical Engineer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Eva was actively involved in various committees for the militaries of North, Central and South America throughout her military career.
#CanWomenSTEM150 Dr. Lesley Shannon is an #engineer, #teacher, and #activist, who cares deeply about promoting #science, engineering, and #technology careers to women. Her primary area of interest within engineering is #Computing #System #Design, including #architectures, design methodologies, and #programming models. When she’s not teaching courses in SFU’s Engineering Science department, Dr. Shannon is busy advocating for women and other under-represented groups in #STEM.
