The Stone Staircase by John Soane at Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire. In the 1790s and early 1800s Soane made a number of alterations at Wimpole for Philip Yorke, 3rd earl of Hardwicke. This service stair was inserted against the east wall of the seventeenth-century house and involved blocking up a window created by Henry Flitcroft in the Great Staircase.
