I love the copper accents... | By MollysArtistry | Every now and again, I like to just go in my studio with an idea and just play with paint. That is how I learn. It's how I create new techniques and it's how I just progress and explore and for this one, I wanted to do a balloon smash but I wanted to do it with thin paints. So, these paints are just paint and water and I wanted to get a very intricate design that covers the entire canvas. So, the way that I'm starting this, I poured a base coat of multiple colors and now, I'm just going to come through with a bunch of colors layered on top and then, I am going to use the balloon to create the design. Now, going into this as I was experimenting and playing around, I wasn't quite sure how this was going to come out but I just kind of started in with the balloon and quickly, I kind of learned how I wanted the painting to look and it kind of evolved as I was painting it. I have a canvas on the side to use up my leftover paints with a regular balloon smash and that one came out very pretty as well. So, I had a lot of paint on the canvas to starts and the paints were thinner than I normally do. So, as I was kind of smashing the balloon down, I would get these really cool parts in the center where the paint would hang on to the balloon and then kind of come off in this swirl design and I realized I really liked that. It was super cool. So, I just started kind of smashing down with the balloon and trying to get that effect everywhere. I started to just really kind of put the balloon high in the air so that I could get those extra parts of paint that dripped off. I wanted this design to cover the entire canvas with very little negative space and so I started to run my finger through to kind of connect some of those parts together some of the design together so that it would look cohesive when it dried. I this was so much fun and I love how the bronze ended up looking in this painting. It really highlighted some beautiful areas in the design. So, I would say that this was a successful experiment and it was fun to just go in and play around and I hope that you get to do the same when you're feeling creative as well. Super fun technique. Give it a try.
