A reduced amount of beneficial bacteria can seriously impact the microbiome. Some of those bacteria produce anti-inflammatory agents like short-chain fatty acids and butyrate.1

While we can’t say that the gut microbiome (or the bacterial imbalances) are responsible for IBD, it IS important to take care of it the best you can. 

Eat plenty of fiber, diversify your diet, and pay attention to how your body feels throughout the day.
