Classroom Fun
A Masai child speaking out loud the English alphabets in a kindergarden class, with the help of a Masai walking stick as a pointer, which is commonly used among Masai people for walking, herding, and fighting. I had a chance to participate in their English class. The "classroom" was a fairly large house formed with timber poles which are plastered with a mix of mud, grass, cow dung and human urine. African School
While education should be a basic right, for many it is a privilege. The sad beauty is that when it's a privilege, it's truly valued as one. We met children who choose to sleep on classrooms floors rather than go home, b/c there's electricity, allowing them study at night and have a shot at university. I'm glad we have small role in enabling their education through clean water and improved hygiene and sanitation. (Photo by Barak Bruerd)
