a piece of wood that has some wires attached to it and is laying on the ground

I love cardweaving. Inkle weaving lets me create longer lengths of weaving but card weaving allows me to create more interesting patterns. Combining the two was problematic but I'm pleased with the results. I still have to comb out the warp sometimes but a girl can't have everything! I can't figure out how to get the tension I want, the lengths I want and the freedom from 'comb-out'. Swivels for each card would dramatically increase the width of loom when I use finer threads. Suggestions…

several pieces of wood are sitting on a table next to some scissors and a pair of pliers

I have spent six months learning tablet weaving and here are some tips that I want to share with beginners struggling with their first bands.

the wires are attached to the back of an electrical device that is being worked on

This is the 4th incarnation of my loom. With the help of my brilliant son and husband, I gathered ideas for the warp roller and here it is! It works great so far and I'm loving how easy it is to move the warp forward. The back piece of PVC has holes drilled in it (I have my own drill press) and a chopstick is inserted in the holes (which are drilled across from each other) to move and hold the roller bar. The loom has "legs" to allow more room for rolled warp. This took many trips to Lowe's…

Card Weaving - How to Make Your Own Cards From Recycled Materials: I'm a spinner and a weaver. I especially love weaving with my own handspun yarns. A dear friend of mine, Sue Woods, traded me a pile of weaving books for my pile of stained glass and supplies a few years ago. I started reading through them all last …

a hand holding a wooden rack with several wine bottles

This morning Bob and I left New Mexico and drove almost four hours to the little town of Van Horn, Texas. Van Horn is a town that has little to offer except a place to get off the road when you’re on the way to someplace else. We leave tomorrow morning for Fort Stockton, Texas. I wanted to share about my new loom that Bob made for me. On Ravelry, the inkle weaving group has been discussing Keel Looms, which are built using the plans found in the book “Small Looms in Action,” by Elizabeth…

the diagram shows how to draw a ramp for children's play equipment, including a slide

Hi everybody! I have been so inspired by the tutorials I have found on other weaver's blogs, most especially Laverne over at BackstrapWeaving. WOW. She weaves totally gorgeous things with very little in the way of equipment. If you haven't been to visit already please check it out. I can't get enough of her online tutorials and informative videos. I recently purchased her ebook on Andean Pebble Weave, and it's pretty rad! I CAN'T wait to make my first backstrap and get started! I really want…

a computer mouse sitting on top of a wooden desk next to papers and wires in a box

Creating woven messages has been a goal of mine for ages. I'd practically given up trying to learn how to do it. It took a broken foot to slowed my life down enough that I could concentrate on it. Then I discovered it's really quite simple once you break it down into section . All the videos I found and all the books I read were great at showing me how to make a loom and thread the cards. How to turn them remained a mystery. This post assumes you already know about card weaving, how to…

a kitchen island with keys hanging from it

I’m enjoying teaching myself about tablet weaving, through some reading and a lot of trial and error. Over the past few months I’ve spent quite a while experimenting with ways to make sure that I’…
