The world’s first skyscraper - 10-storey, 42m tall Home Insurance Building (1885) designed by William Le Baron Jenney. The building, in Chicago, Illinois, was the first building to use structural steel in its frame, and the majority of its structure was composed of cast and wrought iron. Technological improvements enabled the construction of fireproofed iron-framed structures with deep foundations, equipped with new inventions such as the elevator and electric lighting.
