Last Saturday my husband and I went on a bus trip with the Camera Club of Richmond. We left at 7AM, arriving at First Landing around 9AM. We spent two hours there, moved on to Virginia Beach for a few hours, and then stopped at Colonial Williamsburg on the way home. I'll be posting more pictures of this trip in the coming days...

I have been reading an excellent book written by Bryan Peterson called "Understanding Flash Photography." His book is helping me get a better grasp of off-camera flash, using the flash's manual settings. In this shot I metered on the whole scene in matrix mode. With my camera set to f/18, my Nikon SB-700 indicated that with the flash at full strength, 5.8 feet would be the proper distance to hold the flash from the main subject (the dead tree).
