Jenny Doan demonstrates how to make a quick and easy Building Blocks quilt using 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes). For this project she chose Sensibility 10" Squares by Maywood Studio. This is a great quilt for beginners, and it can be made scrappy, modern, or any other style you like!

Here are some tips:

- I used a 2 1/2” acrylic square template and fussy cut a strawberry in the middle.
- cut a background square at 5 1/2” (you can do any size center square-just add 3” to the size of the center square to get the measurement for the background square)
- lay the center square onto the background square in the middle, with the background square on the diagonal.
- use a piece of cardstock to use as a guide to fold over sides and press. Use a 1/4” seam to sew around all 4 sides.
- trim finished block using lines on a ruler to keep the square even and trim 1/4” away from the corners.

A nine patch is one of the most basic quilting blocks. At it's most basic, it is nine different squares of fabric sewn together to form a larger square.  Patterns can be created with the 9 patch. Or you can keep it totally random, like I've done. These are really easy to make and perfect for beginners.
