All microwaves seem to be different. Mine takes between 6 and 9 minutes for 2 to 3 small shallots and a half cup of oil. Remember, the shallots in the oil are still almost at frying temperature when they come out of the microwave. So be careful. Also make sure to quickly move them from the oil to drain when you think they're done because they'll continue to cook.
