Mountain goats-extreme athletes of Mother Nature

Strong, and sure of himself.

Every single wild animal has a special environmental niche that it occupies to survive, and wild mountain goats have evolved to occupy some of the weirdest and most hard-to-reach ecological niches out there – steep cliff faces. These goats aren't crazy - the cliffs they spend most of their lives on confer numerous benefits, including protection from land-bound predators, foraging, and access to mineral licks.

This Mountain Goat in Glacier National Park is sporting a fresh new coat of hair. It was late October and he's beautifully prepared to endure another long Montana winter!

According to National Geographic, cliff-climbing goats belong to the antelope family and they master their ability to climb unreachable places in order to protect themselves from both human and animal predatory species. Apart from being highly intelligent creatures, they entertain the whole internet with their incredible cliff-climbing skills.
