Selket is the goddess of venomous creatures, particularly the scorpion. She is typically depicted as a human woman with a scorpion headpiece, or as a scorpion. She could punish the unrighteous with venomous stings, or, conversely, she could reward her worshippers by curing them from scorpion stings, snake bites, and poisons in general. She is one of the minor desert goddesses whose attributes were eventually assimilated by Isis.
