easy beginner cardweaving patterns
I've been working on an "Introduction to Card Weaving" post, but ran into some technical difficulties Several hours into creation, the computer shut down, and inexplicably, the post was not saved, despite my having clicked on the "Save" button numerous times throughout the process. I have no idea what happened, but it was a significant set back. Images gone. Text gone. My mini glossary gone. In many ways, it was almost back to the first outline I created. Seriously frustrating. Hopefully I…
This pattern is a good introduction to more difficult patterns like Ram's Horn. It looks like a complex pattern but is deceptively easy to weave; since most of the "pattern" is actually an optical illusion. You can download this draft as a TDD file by clicking here Difficulty Level: Easy Materials: 8 4-holed tablets 16 red threads 16 black threads Weft thread in either red or black Thread your tablets as shown in the threading diagram at the bottom of the draft. For the first four turns…

Creating the books in the Easy Weaving Series is an ongoing project. Each book takes a long time to create and I spend many hours squeezing my creative juices to create the tablet weaving patterns …
This pattern was inspired by work done by Shelagh Lewins on a band from the Oseberg ship burial (buried in 834 CE). It's a simple threaded-in pattern and is woven by turning the tablets continuously forwards (or by turning the tablets continuously backwards to work out built up twist). It's reversible, so the pattern appears on both sides of the band and would make a great selvedge pattern as part of a larger band. This is an easy weave, as the tablet threadings produce the pattern so…
Beginners Guide to Tablet Weaving - Free download as PDF File (.pdf), Text File (.txt) or read online for free. This document provides an overview of how to do tablet weaving using the forward/back technique. It discusses drafting patterns using a grid system, warping the loom by threading warp strands through labeled tablets according to the pattern, and the weaving process of turning the tablets forward and back while passing the weft through. The document is intended as a beginner's guide…
I have spent six months learning tablet weaving and here are some tips that I want to share with beginners struggling with their first bands.

Tablet Weaving for the Absolute Beginner: Birka 6 – Lady Elewys of Finchingefeld, JdL, GdS
6-20-22 - I still love the pattern, it is so beautiful! But I wasn’t able to fix the mess I made, without making more of a mess. It had worn me out. So I cut it off the loom, I would have only bee...
© Carolyn Priest-Dorman 2002-2003 A number of excellent instructional books are available for beginning tablet weavers. However, they don't all use the same words to mean the same things. Teachers of tablet weaving don't all learn from the same sources, either, so you can't avoid this problem simply by learning from gurus instead of books. It can be very frustrating to learn one set of technical vocabulary and then discover that another instructor or book uses a different set! Among the…
