Types of Waves 1
This Concept Map, created with IHMC CmapTools, has information related to: Types of Waves 1, wave can pass through a series of vibrating objects which is damped harmonic motion- a vibration that fades out as energy is transferred from one object to another, travels through a medium a medium is needed for mechanical waves, Vibrations & Waves: most waves are caused by vibrating objects where mechanical energy of a vibrating mass-spring system changes form, transfers energy where energy is the…

Triangle Diagram With Speed
Waves are transferring energy from one point to another. The forms of energy, sound, and light are carried by waves. The property of a wave depends on the amount of energy being transferred. The higher the energy in the wave, the higher the frequency and the shorter waves with lower energy have low frequencies and longer wavelengths.
The Physics of Sound
This is a powerpoint I made for our reference. It contains the basic physics of sound - key words, how it travels, etc. It could also be used as the slide for the first lecture. -Julia I do not own the pictures used in these slides. Most of the information was taken from http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/sound/.

Powerpoint Notes- Seismic Waves
Presented here is a PowerPoint (pptx file) set of notes consisting of 22 slides and 4 animations concerning seismic waves and seismometers. These notes include a breakdown of P waves, S waves, and surface waves and how seismometers are used to interpret wave data. It is linked to the Seismic Waves Guidebook where students can record their findings in an interactive notebook. This set of notes goes perfectly with any Earth's layers or Seismic Waves activity! This set of notes includes the…

Longitudinal Wave
Understanding Waves – Made Easy by Learning Den There are two main types of waves: Transverse waves (e.g. light): Particles move up and down Longitudinal waves (e.g. sound): Particles move back and forth Key wave properties: Amplitude: How far the wave moves from the rest position Wavelength: Distance of one full wave (crest to crest or trough to trough) Time Period (T): Time for one complete oscillation Frequency (f): Number of waves per second
Formula: f = 1/T These concepts are…
