A YOUNG WOMAN PROTESTS AGAINST BRA-WEARING IN SAN FRANCISCO, 1969. This young woman who removed her bra was taking part in the Miss America Protest, during which women criticized the fashion industry’s ‘ludicrous beauty standards’. Apart from bras, other things tossed in the trash included heels, makeup, girdles. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the protest garnered lots of media attention.
