Throw to Fire on Instagram: "For years my reclaim lived in the middle of my studio, on any space available. I would store the plaster bats in a corner and (very 🤦‍♀️) sporadically, I would haul them out of their hiding place to do my reclaim. So safe to say, I didn’t reclaim very often. And the longer I avoided the reclaim, the worse the job became 😩. Sound familiar?! So when I gave my little pottery studio a revamp, I decided that I wanted a designated spot for reclaim. Somewhere the plaster bats could be permanently stored and easily accessible. I couldn’t be happier with my reclaim shelves 🙌 If you want to make you own, here’s some tips; 1️⃣ Ensure the plaster bats have good airflow so that they can dry out. I rest mine on wooden sticks to keep them elevated off the shelve

Ashlee Hopkins on Instagram: "How do I keep my studio clean? Here’s three things I do: 1. I try not to store anything directly on the floor. This avoids build up between buckets and tubs, and it makes cleaning so much easier. I use dollys or trolleys to make the most of floor space and keep things organised! 2. I add a cup of vinegar to my mop water to help remove the clay from the floor. And I change the water A LOT in one mopping session - it’s a must I don’t want to see too many streaks across the floor. 3. And once every few months I wipe the lid and sides of all my glaze buckets. They build up so much dust and caked on drips around their outsides. It’s important to remember that a clean studio isn’t just for looks - it’s actually so important for a potter’s health to keep dust to

Kristen Kieffer on Instagram: "Slab cutters for the win! How all my wall pillows start. No slab roller or even rolling pin? No problem! Another tool(s) made during my time with mentor John Glick (circa 1996-97). I have two sets for 1/4” and 1/3” slabs each. All ya need to make your own is below. SO MUCH FASTER than rolling out individual slabs. I slam out a thick version of the basic dimensions for the slab I need while the clay is still in the bag (mostly by dropping it on the floor = gravity). Loop the wire over the nails starting at the bottom and up you go for however many slabs you need. Easy peasy. AND slab cutters take up very little room in the studio! Materials: -two pieces of hand-friendly wood per set (mine are 7 1/2” h x 1 7/8” w x 3/4” t) -wire, the same quality as a wire too

The abrasives grind down imperfections and bumps to make a lid connection smooth and not get stuck! 🤓 IF it STILL isn’t fitting. Use a drill with a diamond bit to really grind the imperfections down if the valve grinding compound isn’t enough. ✅ Also get a diamond bat to sand down other parts and bottoms!
