The first stone of the Pont Neuf in Paris was laid by King Henri III in 1578, though the famous bridge was not completed until 1607. It is one of the world’s most well-known bridges. The original wooden pilings that support the foundations still remain, and, though the structure has never been altered, major restorations that began in 1994 were completed in 2007 in conjunction with the bridge’s 400th anniversary.
Oxford's Bridge of Sighs.
Oxford's Bridge of Sighs. Officially known as the Hertford Bridge although this Oxford bridge is usually referred to as the "Bridge of Sighs" in reference to the famous bridge in Venice. The bridge wasn't intended to be a copy of it's Venetian namesake, indeed it's appearance is closer to the Rialto Bridge in that city. The bridge connects two parts of Hertford College and was designed by Sir Thomas Jackson and completed in 1914.
