Spider Medicine Drum

Grandmother Spider has been an integral teacher and guide for me in my personal practice. She was the one who called me to this work, first with visions, then by multiple poisonous bites. Her awakening was drumming in the 4 directions. Her initiation was holding powerful space for deep deep healing at our community fire ceremony. Her sound is "cathedral-like" and while she looks delicate, she is very strong. After some number of walking meditations on the beach, the wood found me, offering up to become her body. And I, laying offerings down for such a gift. One of her breasts is a darkened knot, the other is a hole. Straight through. Like a hag stone. The kind of thing one might peek through the veil between worlds & see what ordinary looking doesn't show. Then she came into being. All with dialogue between us. That's the best part. The call and response. The realizations, conversations, musings..

Elephant medicine played a significant part in my life as I moved through some of my toughest experiences. It still shows up once in a while when I need specific reminders. One of the many aspects Elephant taught me in my spiritual practice, was that each animal guide brings a very personal and unique message for each person they come to. Meanings & wisdoms not found in any guide book, not general knowledge when asked about at gatherings, but just for YOU. Tailored and personal.

Owl Mandala

Wise owl medicine came through to take over what began as an intentional mandala painting. This was a beautiful experience in surrendering to the processes and allowing something greater than what I "thought I wanted" to come into being instead. It was what was needed. Full of messages and insights to integrate through the painting process and ever after when viewed. Definitely one of my most favourites.

Highest Wisdom Mandala

Mandala paintings are very much a way of bringing the unseen realms through to the seen and experienced in day-to-day living. Each shape and even the direction around the center in which they are created holds meaning. Hidden symbology that speaks straight to our subconscious mind and for our hearts to recognize.

Like a selkie too long on land, I dove into the soul nourishing process of painting. Following impulses based on colour and the feel of paint spreading rather than any idea of a final image. 3 Cauldrons

The Celtic view of energy centers is of three cauldrons, as opposed to spinning Chakras. Mixed media & three dimensional. I can put things in and out of these cauldrons to represent what I am working with at any given time. On New Year's day I have begun a little divination practice with tiny cards with words on them - I blindly pull out a card for each cauldron and consider that as a look ahead for the year
