Avoid huge balusters. End the railings into your bottom steps. 2. Have your balusters go directly into your floor for a clean look. This is more costly but looks elegant. 3. For a most effective option consider a hand rail that can be made at a shop. (This type wouldn’t be like the one shown). 4. If you need to use shoe cleats use the smallest size possible. Sometimes this can’t be avoided due to the length. If you plan ahead extra backing can be applied during framing. 5.
