Historic Sites of Manitoba: Famous Five Monument (Osborne Street, Winnipeg)
The Famous Five who legally gained the right for women to vote in Canada in 1929 ~ That is pretty recently! There are identical statues erected to their achievement in Ottawa, Ontario and Calgary, Alberta since they all lived in Alberta when involved in this historic and vital legal challenge. The statue shown here erected at the Manitoba Legislature in 2010. Created by local sculptor Helen Granger on behalf of the Nellie McClung Foundation.
