Watercolours

<p>Compared to oils which are built up and mixed slowly and methodically on the canvas or board, watercolours offer a quick impression of the sitter or scene to brush on before the water contained within dries. It is an approach often painted live in situ rather than a studio and creates images rich in light and movement.&nbsp;Colours can be premixed or placed as distinct layers on the paper, and every stroke needs to be intentional and planned to prevent mistakes which can’t be undone. It is the spontaneity of watercolours which make antique and vintage examples so appealing. These are often humble moments from the past, captured in time and never to return. They have been kept out of the sun by owners who cherished them too much to see them fade, and their smaller size makes them feel more personal.</p><p><br></p><p>The <a href="https://www.loveantiques.com/antique-art/watercolours/19th-century" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">19th</a> and <a href="https://www.loveantiques.com/antique-art/watercolours/20th-century" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">20th </a>Centuries were the hiatus for watercolours and at LoveAntiques we have a large and fine selection for any space on your wall you wish to fill.</p>
