Photographer Claude P. Dettloff of The Province newspaper was in New Westminster, BC, Canada, on October 1, 1940, as The British Columbia Regiment marched down Eighth Street. Warren "Whitey" Bernard ran away from his mum to his father, Private Jack Bernard. The picture received extensive exposure and was used in war-bond drives and became known as "Wait for Me, Daddy."
