I was so excited when Collingwood-based design and millwork shop AG Designs approached me with the opportunity to work on two banquettes for the lobby of The Dorchester Hotel. This boutique hotel is in a heritage building in Collingwood’s downtown core which opened in December 2022. The 28 rooms of the hotel celebrate the cultural heritage of Downtown Collingwood while offering guests a welcome touch of modernity. ✨ Feeling inspired? In 2012, I had the opportunity to pose with one of my creations for photos that were used to promote that year’s Chair Affair Gala in support of Furniture Bank. This chair was inspired by the very first chair I did for the Chair Affair Gala in 2010 which featured a corsetted back. In the early stages of my career, I had a lot of fun experimenting with different sorts of unusual and repurposed materials. I’ve always been interested in exploring creativity by experimenting with unique pieces.

The 222 is a dimly lit, intimate bar serving elevated cocktails, beer and premium liquors - the perfect date night spot. When the owners took over the space, the whole place was gutted so they could build out the bar, adding in carpet and overall cozy-ing up the atmosphere. We were asked to upholster the bar rail as part of this bar makeover. We upholstered the bar in Charlotte Fabrics Ultrahyde, an extremely durable and stain-resistant faux leather.

Seats with a view… These large window seats are a beautiful feature of a newly built home in the country near Creemore, ON designed by Collingwood-based design and millwork shop AG Designs. We chose this gorgeous writing desk and stool for our 2015 Chair Affair submission. Working with Peter Feeney, we gave the desk a new top with hand-dyed and brogued veg-tanned leather and we reupholstered the stool with a red and gold geometric print fabric with black leather trim. The chair was auctioned off by Olivia Chow and purchased by Sandra Rinomato for the highest-ever Chair Affair bid at the time. #ParkdaleTradingCompany #furniturebank #customupholstery

Built-in benches are a fantastic way to maximize outdoor seating - perfect if you’re a restaurant or bar with a popping patio or you love to entertain at home like me! 🏍️ I’ve only worked on a few motorcycle seats, so I'm always excited when the opportunity arises to do another! After my first ride, I got the itch to get my license, although it's yet to happen. Getting a bike may wait until retirement since fear of injury and its impact on my work holds me back. Until then, I get to help breathe new life into well-loved motorcycles! This seat was for a Triumph Thruxton we reupholstered and installed it just in time for the beautiful spring weather.

My love of vintage furniture drew me to upholstery. Years ago, I connected with Jullian Sauso-Bawa of STAY Home Furnishings in Toronto, a treasure trove of authentic vintage mid-century and modern home furnishings. Jullian asked me to reupholster two vintage chrome framed leather sling lounge chairs by designer Ingmar Relling for Westnofa of Norway. These feature tufted cushions in a distressed tan leather with a leopard print backing and new high-quality foam inserts. IG @STAYhomefurnishings

Why might you opt for banquette seating? It’s a great solution for small or large open-plan spaces! Banquette seating makes a floor plan more compact while at the same time, making it feel more spacious. This banquette features millwork by Kerr’s Cabinetry and fabric by Charlotte Fabrics. A chance visit from a patron of the restaurant next door led to the opportunity to do these fun cushions for the Kvadrat x Andreu World Residency launch at the ‘Client From Hell’ building on Dufferin Street in Toronto. The event featured the latest textile collections from Kvadrat and showcased furniture by Andreu World upholstered in them - that’s where we came in! This gorgeous magenta wool felt by Kvadrat was a treat to work with. #ParkdaleTradingCompany #kvadrattextiles

In 2021, we worked on a Sergio Rodrigues Moleca chair. Our client found the frame with leather strapping in great shape on Kijiji. 😲 There was just one issue - the upholstery was not included! With no original cover to use as a pattern or padding materials to reference, we pulled it off with lots of research and prototyping. The client was thrilled with the comfort and the aesthetics of his ‘new’ Sergio Rodrigues Moleca chair, which is now the focal point of his condo living room.

This fall we reupholstered this gorgeous vintage sofa for Provocateur Images’ studio. Our shop assistant, Taylor did an excellent job of stripping down the antique frame and restabilizing it for upholstery. From there, I reupholstered it in the client’s selection of ivory velvet which contrasts well with the gold frame and provides a glamorous backdrop to shoot against. #ParkdaleTradingCompany #upholstery #commercialupholstery #boudoirphotography
