A muscle is composed of many muscle fibres. The diagram shows a muscle attached to the bone by a tendon, which surrounds the muscle. A muscle is composed of muscle fibre bundles. Nerves and blood vessels run alongside the length of a bundle. Within each bundle are individual muscle fibres which contain nuclei and reticulum. Within each muscle fibre there are myofibrils. Each myofibril contains myofilaments of the contractile proteins actin and myosin.
