Why Koreans don’t smell

My Korean American husband teases me about this all the time. He actually NEVER has body odor. It’s crazy. I didn’t know there was a scientific explanation until I learned about the ABCC11 gene! Turns out most Koreans carry the AA variant (loss of function single nucleotide polymorphism) of this gene, which means odorless sweat AND dry earwax. Not sure if this imparted some type of evolutionary advantage. There are theories that sweat odor may contain pheromones to help attract mates but that remains to be proven with this particular gene.
