The Ontario Food Terminal
Behind the scenes: The Ontario Food Terminal. It was established in 1954 and is the largest wholesale fruit and produce distribution centre in Canada and the third largest in North America. The terminal distributes over 2 billion pounds of produce annual (which is an average of 5.6 million pounds a day). The Terminal supports local farmers, local fruit and vegetable stores, independent and chain supermarkets, retailers, restaurants, foodservice, caterers, farmers’ markets, farm gate markets, florists, garden centres, landscapers, convenience stores and institutions. For over 60 years, they have been at the forefront of the “buy local” movement.
