Yule. In ancient Scandinavia, this festival lasted 12 days (and nights). The first night of Yule (the night before the Solstice) was called the "mother's night". That night the Nordic Pagans used to sit and wait for the birth of the Sun God, Balder, born of the goddess Frigg and fathered by Odin. With the winter solstice, the goddess turned wheel of the year to give you a new point of departure.

Winter Solstice is December 21st each year and is one of the oldest celebrated holidays. It marks the first official day of winter and is the shortest day of the year. It's also a period of time when the sun sets and rises in the same part of the sky. In it's simplest form, it's a great day to gather with your friends and family, enjoy each others company and celebrate starting a new winter together! Moonwater is imbued with the energy of the Full or New Moon. It is great for many spells, for ritual drink on full moons or Sabbats, or just for a little extra Goddess energy. Use a glass bottle/jar filled with water left under the moon overnight (a garden or a window sill will do fine) . Add a blessing: “Blessed Moon lend your strength and courage to the water I make this night. May it be filled with your ever lasting love and healing power.
