For a lot of people, the first thing that comes to mind when they hear boudoir is the word “sexy”. Maternity boudoir photography sessions do not have to be focused on sensuality. These sessions are about photographing the nude, or partially nude, body of a pregnant person in an artistic manner. The mood captured by the photos can be powerful, joyful, serene, peaceful: there are no limits!

Keep calm and plan on

While photography is an art form, we definitely don’t take a “see where inspiration takes us” approach when it comes to sessions. We spend hours planning and preparing for your session before you even arrive at the studio (or at an outdoor location). Why? One of the biggest concerns clients have when it comes to their session, especially their first experience with maternity or newborn photos, is not knowing what to expect.

The studio currently has a collection of over 35 dresses. As well as 10 pieces of fabric for clients to use for their Ottawa maternity photo sessions. The dresses range in size from small to 2X. The fabrics can be styled in multiple ways and used by clients who range in size from XS to 4X.

As a maternity photographer in Ottawa, I suggest clients book their session in the second trimester. Maternity sessions are held around 30-34 weeks along giving us plenty of time to take care of the planning. Maternity Sessions are fun to plan with each session uniquely styled.

Do I have to bare it all?

“What if I’m not comfortable showing bare skin for my maternity session?” The clothing you choose to wear, or not wear, for your session, is 100% up to you. Before sessions take place we ensure we clearly understand what a client’s comfort is regarding the modesty of their clothing.

Maternity Session in Fresh Snow

Their maternity session fell on a day with a beautiful fresh dusting of snow. We don’t often have such pretty snow in November so we were feeling pretty lucky on the day of their session. What a perfect setting for a Winter baby’s maternity session! I first met this soon-to-be big sister at her newborn session. She has grown and changed so much since I’d seen her last!

Every maternity session is completely unique to the couple or family who books it. Everyone has their own preferences and style as well as things that are important for them to capture. In styling my Ottawa pregnancy photo sessions we use a combination of tools to get us started. After eleven years of photographing these special sessions we have the process down to an art! At the beginning of the planning, I ask clients to fill out a questionnaire that asks about a variety of options.
