This time I was tasked with using marigolds that were left over from a photo shoot that our director of photography, Johanna Love, didn’t want to go to waste. I grabbed the flowerpots, my stash of fabrics, trims, and paper scraps, and headed home, excited to see what would come from the bright orange-ish-red blooms. I love to create using vintage items and muted colors, so tea-stained papers and vintage lace were the obvious choices here, combined with some handwritten antique vellum document scraps and Lynne Perrella stamps. The Alchemy of Stone
This bag was inspired by the muted tones and colors of aged lichen found on the ruins of Anglo-Saxon stonework and dry stone walls in England, where I spent my childhood. This project began with a collection of scrap materials — recycled garments from thrift shops and many jars of buttons. I created the individual embellished tiles first with no plan for the final outcome; I just let the colors inspire me, and let each stage evolve. Learn how to make this bag in GreenCraft Winter 2024.
