The "new Hikaru" is not the same as the original,, as we know. This brings up intense feelings of alienation, confusion, and fear,, both in Yoshiki and in "Hikaru" himself. For many LGBTQ+ people, especially thse of a young age, this mirrors the experience of realizing you're different from those around you, or even feeling inhuman for being queer in an unaccepting world or smth. Yoshiki struggles with his feelings for Hikaru. does he love Hikaru, or is he just clinging to a memory? Similarly, "Hikaru" tries to act like the original, wanting to be accepted and shit. This parallels how some queer people try to "pass" or conform, suppressing parts of themselves out of love or fear,, especially in environments that might not accept their identity.
