Its plumage is largely grey above, and off-white below. Adults have a white head with a broad black supercilium and slender crest, while immatures have a dull grey head. It has a powerful, pinkish-yellow bill, which is brighter in breeding adults. It has a slow flight, with its long neck retracted (S-shaped). This is characteristic of heron

Goliath Heron. This is the largest heron in the world standing at between 120 - 152cm tall. Its broad wings flap ponderously to propel thhis huge bird through the air. The smaller Purple Heron has similar colouring but the white under-stripe and black legs of the Goliath are diagnostic. Found on wetlands, estuaries and dams.
