This is a quilt by Rosie Lee Tompkins. She inspired the collector Eli Leon. "Her gorgeous quilts are made from a variety of new and recycled fabrics and clothes of cotton, artificial fur, denim, various glittery materials and many in luscious velvets. Tompkins used a wide variety of traditional patterns, including half-squares, medallions and yo-yos. She was inspired by her spirituality and desire to honor family members." About the inspiration for the quilt, "The Charles Bridge, also known as the Stone Bridge, is a historic bridge across the Vltava River in Prague. Li-Hui likes to use quilting to record travels with her children. "For a mother," she says, "it is the most beautiful and happy memory in life."

Uprooted by June Jaeger was featured in the Abstract Category - Houston 2024. June says, "I like to find inspiration and beauty in the simple things in nature. I was intrigued by the shadow-play of an uprooted juniper tree. As I played with lines and fabrics, this piece took on a life of its own. The deeper I got into this piece, the more stories and symbolism began to appear. It represents the struggle of life and growth manipulating around the blockades as it strives to exist."

It Started with a Mistake. Mango Garden by Stacie Spradlin was featured in the Wall Quilts - Quilter's Choice category at AQS QuiltWeek - Paducah 2025. Stacie made the quilt from the pattern of the same name featured at Tildasworld.com. The first iteration was made as a shop sample for her local quilt shop, the Hickory Stick Quilt Shop, in Hannibal, MO. Alice Neal’s poignant, hand-pieced tribute to her mother, Mary Bright. Neal, who was born in Louisiana, made the sentimental quilt soon after her mother’s death in 1954, using material from the dress Bright was wearing in the photo that provided the basis for the quilt’s portrait, and embroidering important dates on it.

"True to her love of quilting, combined with a fearless approach to melding her favorite hobbies, Ashley combined quilling with quilting on this interesting quilt. The quilled flowers were created with prepared fabric strips. Triaxial weaving forms hexagons in the center section, while thread painting and beadwork enhance this small quilt that is bordered by 1/2" prairie points."

Best Miniature Quilt Award at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2025 This quilt is "Scandinavian Summer" by Barbara Kilbourn. "Barbara's original design was inspired by traditional Scandinavian folk art. Because her grandfather was Swedish, she made the quilt to honor her Scandinavian heritage. The 14" x 14" quilt includes 329 appliquéd pieces and 100 scallops. Barbara says, "Quilting is a journey. Be open to trying new things."

Soaring Dragon
First Place Group Quilts at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2025 Soaring Dragon by QianNaFang Studio won First Place. "The Group worked together in the Year of the Dragon to create a patchwork to express best wishes to their country and the world with the wisdom, power, and spirits of the dragon. The idea was originally inspired by a traditional paper-cut prototype of a dragon by Yang Jinqiu and was accomplished in the quilt with mola and traditional Chinese Dingjin embroidery."

In the quest to get this UFO done, she omitted her last row and did a reverse couching computerized embroidery pattern. There are 142 handmade ornaments and too many rhinestones to count in this award-winning quilt. The kit was bought right after losing her whole house in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge November 2016 wildfire.!"

Quilted by Sherry May, we love the way Paula uses machine appliqué, foundation piecing, machine piecing, paper piecing, and free motion quilting to create the Wetlands of the title vividly.
