Escaping Escher
11 x 14” acrylic on claybord I’ve been working on a few new (to me) ideas that explore optical puzzles and tricks for the eye. I love M.C. Escher’s mazes and play of negative and positive space. His woodcut Day & Night inspired me to create this tribute. I learned a lot trying to figure out how to fit the pieces together. In Escher's maze of birds entwined, One dreamed of freedom she could find. With wings outstretched, she soared away, To skies where endless wonders lay.

a bird sitting on top of a tree branch next to a quote from the book, prisicla and the blue feather
Priscilla and the Blue Feather
Priscilla gazed through the tree branches, curious to know who had left a deep blue feather lodged in the notch between two twigs. She hoped it was a gift meant just for her. Acrylic on Claybord 5" x 7" by Linda Kemp
a bird sitting on top of a tree branch next to an article about the party guests
Ciscindle's Party
As the party guests waved goodbye, everyone remarked on the tasty treats that had been served. Several offered to tidy up, but Ciscindle declined their offers and chirped, “Oh it’s no bother at all.” She found the ground littered with nutshells and seed hulls. Her cheerful mood took an abrupt turn. Ciscindle glowered. Not only was she left with a mess and no help, but everyone had followed her instructions for “best wishes only” and there were no surprise gifts for her. Acrylic on panel 5"x7"
